Superficially Colorful Lacquer Omaticaya

Omaticaya was released by Israeli-based indie polish maker Superficially Colorful Lacquer as part of the Life on Pandora collection in August 2014. Jin, the owner and creative force behind Superficially Colorful, was inspired by the 2009 epic sci fi film, Avatar to create this wonderful collection of brights. Omaticaya translates in Na'vi, the constructed language of the indigenous inhabitants of Pandora, as Blue Flute Clan and celebrates the nationality the Na'vi people.

As you might expect, Omaticaya is a medium bright primary blue bearing abundant finely-milled holographic pigment. This polish seems to possess a larger ratio of holo pigment than either Tsahik or Atokirina, with more noticeable, largely linear holo effects, but this may also be due to the way the holo works with color pigmentation that is not near-neon, as in the other two polishes. In direct sun there is a strong linear prismatic display predominated by an even brighter blue flair with a semi-metallic pale aquamarine flash in the center, skirted by red and yellow and shading to deep sapphire around the edges. In indirect light, the polish shows pronounced tone on tone nuancing along the axis of light that gives it wonderful dimensionality and a glowing, lit from within look.

Application was delightful. I cannot say enough good things about the formulas of these Life on Pandora polishes, they are simply superb. Omaticaya has a fluid, creamy, light consistency with a silky smooth glide over the nail and outstanding self-leveling properties. It is user friendly, amenable to thin or thicker coats as well as to patching and edging. I found Omaticaya to have a slightly more translucent formula than the other two Life on Pandora polishes I've tried, but it's not sheer by any means. Completely even opaque coverage is easily achieved with two coats, and that's what I used for this manicure. Cleanup is correspondingly easier with this polish, with less pigment travel and no detectable staining. Omaticaya dries naturally in very good time to a finish that is not matte, but not glossy either -- kind of a burnished satin finish. Topcoat does not diminish the holo effects in any way.

Photos show two coats of Omaticaya over Seche Rebuild treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

I love intense medium colors and this is a heavenly blue, bright and vibrant with marvelous dimensionality provided by the holo pigment. In the dim light of my shuttered office, it's taken on a particularly intense cerulean hue that just sends me. It's quite motivating. I may even get a few things check off my perpetually lengthy to do list today!

love,
Liz
