I'm a little ahead of myself here for the benefit of getting the above photo to show up on Facebook as the representative image of this post with the least amount of finagling from me. Facebook, why can't we be friends? Ok, let's take a better look the polishes that make up this combo.
Mismas was released by indie polish maker Rescue Beauty Lounge as part of the Fall 2009 Blogger Created collection in September 2009. Ji, the owner and creative force behind RBL, created this polish in concert with and named it for celebrated polish blogger Michelle Mismas of All Lacquered Up. If you want to read Michelle's post about working with Ji on Mismas, you can find it here. It's a wonderfully-pigmented medium-dark purple, a little more saturated and blue-leaning than your typical grape purple. It's a rich color with an intensely creamy quality and an intrinsic vibrancy.
Application was fantastic, Mismas has an outstanding formula. The consistency is fluid and creamy and light, with a wonderful balance of fluidity and viscosity for painting. This polish goes on with a silky smooth glide over the nail and possesses excellent self-leveling properties. Pigmentation is also excellent: this is a true one-coater but I used two for this manicure to finesse some lines left wanting after the first coat. As with any polish this pigmented, care must be taken during cleanup to avoid pigment travel but a thorough job leaves no residual staining. Mismas dries naturally in very good time to an impeccably glossy finish. So nice!
Photos show two coats of Mismas over basecoat with a slightly bubbly topcoat of Seche Vite. My photos display a little more blue to this shade than it appears in person, partly due to the extremely overcast light but still a frustrating outcome that's not uncommon when photographing purples.

Fat Tuesday is a recent release by indie polish maker Liquid Sky Lacquer for this year's Mardi Gras. A glitter topper, it has abundant variously sized hex glitters in light and medium purple, light and medium green and holographic gold in a transparent suspension base. I applied one coat of Fat Tuesday with my patented (NOT!) plosh and spread technique over the Mismas manicure above. Application was fairly smooth. The consistency is fluid with little to no stickiness. Glitter payoff is great with a perfect range of glitters per brushful that are easily dispersed over the nail. I was very proud that I didn't overdo my application of this topper because I'm usually a bit heavyhanded with the glitter. Not this time! I feel like I finally got it just right.
Photos show about one and a half coats of Fat Tuesday over the above manicure with a smoothing layer of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food followed by a topcoat of Seche Vite.

I'm so happy with how this turned out! It's sparkly in an even and balanced way, I think -- so unusual for one of my glitter manicures. The holographic gold glitters are especially eye-catching, as they should be, and I was particularly enamoured with the sparkle that showed up under the lights in my gym. Polish always looks great under those lights but this is the first time I'd worn glitter on my nails since starting to work out there. I'm sure I cut an impressive figure, standing there amongst the machines and sweaty souls hard at work, staring at my nails. AS IF!
Again, Happy Mardi Gras to you, may your slice of king cake have a baby in it and laissez les bons temps rouler!
love,
Liz
Liz!! GLITTERRRrrr!!!! :D This combination is just perfect; so festive!! I feel like Fat Tuesday would double as an excellent St. Patty's Day glitter over green, with the purples adding some thistle-like spots of interest. All of your RBLs keep reminding me that I need to try out the ones I picked up at their clearance sale last month... Happy Mardi Gras to you as well!!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI know, right?! It's been so long and I am loving it! My nails have grown out long enough to where I can take down the length past the break in one nail that I've been patching for ages now and then I can wear MOAR glitters!
DeleteHow you've resisted trying those RBLs is a mystery in this world. I've really loved the ones I've tried so far -- the formulas are WONDERFUL. Let's see some RBL on your blog, girlie!
Gosh, I know!! What's wrong with me?!! I had the same reaction reading about Picture Polish Ocean just now... I even almost wore Paris today, which would be my first time trying my Pictures! I've had RBL Bicicletta since October but still I haven't it spooled up... I almost cracked when you posted it!! I'm thinking I'll try to feature it around Earth Day, and was hoping to talk a bit about bicycle urbanism along with it but ahh, who knows. Anyways, point is, your tantalizingly gorgeous manis have been goading me to raid my stash, haha ;)
DeleteI am excited to see some more of your glitters! My nails often fall victim to breakage, so I can only imagine that this has been a long-awaited sparkle liberation... let the scintillating floodgates open!! :D Mostly for the ooh shiny pretty, but also because your mesmerized-mid-gym story made me straight-up chortle (because I do the same thing, frequently) :)
Ha! I've got Paris in my swatching chute! And I remember thinking while I was working with RBL Bicicleta that it was a Marisa kind of polish, so delicate and lovely. Great minds!
DeleteI'm afraid I don't have too many unswatched glitters at the moment but I do have two new-to-me Hares that I'm planning on featuring now that I don't have to worry about taking off a chunk of fingernail when I remove them.
