Too Fancy Lacquer A Currant Affair

My love affair with Hong Kong-based indie polish maker Too Fancy Lacquer continues today with A Currant Affair, released as part of the Viola Trio in January 2014. This is a dark rich plummy purple linear holographic polish. The holo effects are strong and responsive but do not take over the base color, instead shading it with hues of violet and blue in indirect light. In direct sun, a full, delineated prismatic display with a central flame of indigo edged by sparkling ribbons of blue, green, yellow and red floats over a gleaming semi-metallic flash of purpley reddish pink. Gorgeous!

Application was wonderful. I've yet to meet a Too Fancy formula that was anything less than fabulous and this one is on par with Charlene's standard high quality creations. The consistency of A Currant Affair is fluid, light and creamy with a buttery glide over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. Pigmentation is also excellent. With a generous hand this could be a one coater, but you'll want to use to two to ensure completely even opacity. I actually used three coats for this manicure to eliminate any possibility that the nail ridges would show, but it definitely wasn't needed for coverage and didn't make a difference in the color. Cleanup was easy even though I had quite a bit of it to do (I painted in the sun, which I don't recommend -- I always make a mess when I do and it encourages bubbling besides), with just a little bit of pigment travel but no residual staining. A Currant Affair dries naturally in very good time to a slick, glossy finish. Topcoat does not diminish the holographic effects in any way.

Photos show three coats of A Currant Affair over treatment and basecoat with a bubbly topcoat of Seche Vite. Apologies for the scruffiness of my nail environs!

I'm not as deeply in love with A Currant Affair as I am with some of Too Fancy's blue holos, but it's still pretty gorgeous. It has a soft, velvety dimensionality that's very pleasing to the eye. Honestly, I don't think it's possible to go wrong when selecting one of Charlene's polishes. Pick a color that you love and whatever you chose will certainly delight you!

love,
Liz
