Butter London Lady Muck

Lady Muck was originally released by Butter London as part of their Spring/Summer 2011 collection. It's a lovely pale soft blue grey with delicate silver shimmers. According to Butter London, it contains pearl powder. The sheen in Lady Muck looks to my eye to be mostly delivered by the silver shimmer, but pearl powder may well have a hand in it also, and just knowing that the pearl powder is present adds a little romance to the exquisite ethereal qualities of this polish.

The formula for Lady Muck is liquid with a creamy body to it and flows smoothly onto the nail. It's a polish that needs to settle and dry before looking it's very best. Being a light color that is well-pigmented, it can appear streaky on the first and I even noticed it with the second coat but after that i slowly disappears as the polish sets. Ghosting around the edges occurs if subsequent coats don't follow the track laid down by the first one. Lady Muck dries in good time to a shiny finish and I thought topcoat helped the polish settle and self-level.

Lady Muck looks divine with lighter colored woolens and space dyes. It's softness is very complementary to more complex analogous colorways. Just thought I'd mention that.

Photos show three thin coats over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

As you can see, Lacy Muck chameleons (I know, not a verb... until now!) from bluer in indirect light and shade to greyer in direct light and sun. The sweet shimmer is a constant presence and I think that is what, in addition to the softness of the color, makes this polish special. I will add that I wish it were more self-leveling, but maybe it's just my bottle because other polish bloggers who posted Lady Muck swatches didn't mention this problem.

Although this was intended for spring/summer wear, I think it also works well for fall and probably winter too. There's a bit of chilly lonesome in the feel of this polish that makes it seem appropriate for the shorter days.

love,
Aunt Liz
