Zoya Jo and Smitten Polish Who Steals a Dead Woman's Shoes

Zoya's Jo was released as part of their Twist collection for spring 2009. Zoya describes it as a "delicate and serene looking medium periwinkle blue with subtle silver and blue toned shimmer." Exactly so. This is a beautiful slightly milky blue with aspects of cornflower and sky and diaphanous shimmers that float above the color and give it a silky "creme rinse" look.

Jo has Zoya's usual liquid but dense consistency. It's a bit more sheer than I expected and definitely need two coats for complete opacity. I think it would be at its best in three thin coats. I was having a bad polish day (one of those where you just can seem to get it right, you know?) when I applied this one and overshot the optimum amount of polish per brushload, so the polish is thicker on the nail than I'd like. I had a bit of clean up to do and overdid that as well, forgetting to wash my hands of acetone residue afterwards. Suffice to say that this manicure does not represent one of my best moments as a polish enthusiast.

Photos show two thick coats of Jo over Seche Rebuild treatment and Butter London Nail Foundation basecoat with a slightly bubbly topcoat of Seche Vite.

Who Steals a Dead Woman's Shoes is my first lacquer from indie polish maker Smitten Polish, but it won't be my last! Noelie Schaefer, the owner and creative force behind Smitten, released Who Steals a Dead Woman's Shoes as part of her Wickedly Smitten collection inspired by the Wizard of Oz take-off Wicked. As the Swedish etailer Edgy Polish puts it, it is "a confection of silver, pale blue and periwinkle hex glitters in various sizes in a clear base."

Who Steals a Dead Woman's Shoes applies easily with a fantastic even glitter spread. Photos show one coat over the Jo manicure above with two coats of Seche Vite for a smooth glossy finish.

I am in love with this combo, it reminds me of a Dior dress I bought at a second hand shop on Elm Street in Greensboro NC to wear to a college reunion. I had so much fun wearing that dress! Who Steals a Dead Woman's Shoes is like faerie magic on the nail with it's lovely ethereal blue and mesh of twinkling sparkles, so pretty!

love,
Aunt Liz
