American Apparel is not particularly known for their lacquers. There are usually some up for auction on ebay and that is where I got mine. Army Jacket is one of only two that I have in my collection, but after this I think I'll try to score some more of them.
Army Jacket is a well-pigmented medium-light soft artichoke green creme. In some lights it adopts grey undertones and reminds me of green clay, in others it brightens up to more of an asparagus green. Overall it's a creamy, dusky soothing color that I find very flattering on the nail.
I was surprised and delighted with the formula of this polish. The bottle is tall so the brush has a long wand like the Butter London Nail Foundation basecoat I'm currently using. The brush is round, of average size and the bristles are nice and flexible. Army Jacket has a lovely user-friendly consistency, liquid but with sufficient viscosity not to run. It self-levels beautifully and clean up was easy. Army Jacket dries in good time to a high glossy shine.
Photos show two coats of Army Jacket over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Poshe. The topcoat on the ring finger of my left hand caught a doink up by the cuticle at some point (stealthy little dent gremlins, those BITCHES!), I have no clue how that happened but it's there so I felt I should mention it.

This color made my camera go kind of berserk. It kept trying to make it MUCH brighter than it really is so I only included photos that I thought were representative of what Army Jacket is like in person. Otherwise you'd be looking at a post full of photos like this:
my camera turning Army Jacket into lime green... wth? |
I don't know what's up with the camera but obviously it sees something in Army Jacket that my eye does not.
I like this subdued green very much. It's soft and grey-toned in the shade and under artificial light, very subtle and chic feeling. The softness keeps Army Jacket from feeling too edgy. I think it's a gorgeous neutral that would be appropriate at any time of the year. It's got a palette cleansing effect on my eye that I'm feeling particularly grateful for at the moment. This is another one of those polishes that I didn't know I was craving until I put it on.
The other American Apparel polish in my collection is called Passport Blue and I'm eager to try it. Maybe next time!
love,
Aunt Liz
