Cupcake Polish KaBloom

KaBloom was released in April 2015 by Texas-based indie polish maker Cupcake Polish as part of the In Bloom collection. It's a charcoal/off-black linear holo. Superabundant finely-milled holographic pigment reads as pale gold within the base and gives it a dusky powdered look that reminds me of velveteen, with a faint but discernible linear prismatic flare even in low light that creates a lovely dimensional bloom along the axis of light. We had overcast skies and thunderstorms here while I was photographing this polish so no sun shots, but from what I've seen elsewhere the holographic display brightens a lot in the sun, with slender sparkling arcs in prismatic colors predominated by blue and green.

Application was simply delicious. The consistency of KaBloom is fluid, full-bodied and very smooth with a medium viscosity and a luxuriously creamy, self-leveling glide over the nail with a little bit of pull to it. It's a user friendly formula, amenable to thin or thicker coats and a pleasure to manipulate with Cupcake Polish's round flexible brush. Pigmentation is excellent -- nearly a one-coater, with two coats producing perfectly even opacity. Cleanup is easy, almost no pigment travel or residual staining to speak of. KaBloom dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, somewhat flat finish that wants a glossy topcoat to look its best. Topcoat does not inhibit the holographic effects of this polish in any way that I could tell.

Photos show two coats of KaBloom over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

KaBloom has a particularly elevated, languid kind of elegance that I find rich and satisfying. There's something of the aristocratic air of old Hollywood to it that I can't quite put my finger on, something graceful and glamorous and rarefied. It's giving me a power trip. Heady stuff!

    1. I absolutely loved wearing this! It really did make me feel powerful and bold, even though as a holo its fairly moderate in its presentation. Something about that deep powdery grey just sends me!
