Emily de Molly Lunar Haze

Lunar Haze was released in June this year by Australian indie polish maker Emily de Molly as one of six new polishes for that month. Creator Hayley describes it as a light grey holo with very slight beige undertones, an orange overlay and iridescent purple microflakes. The color is a silvery Gainsboro grey with a creamy quality courtesy of its beige undertones, which together with the orange shimmers also give this smooth, silky neutral a subtle warmth. It has a beautiful luster reminiscent of grey freshwater pearls, with a tinge of purple to it from the iridescent purple microflakes and a coppery pink flash. So pretty! In the sun there's a sparkling linear prismatic display predominated by arcs of azure and green surrounding a central glistening lick of pale semi-metallic pinkish orange.

Application was blissful. It would have been even more blissful had the dog not needed to go out right in the middle of it, but there you go. The consistency of Lunar haze is fluid, light and very smooth with an eminently-paintable medium viscosity and a luxurious, creamy, self-leveling glide over the nail. I swear, Hayley formulates some of the best-applying lacquers on the planet! Some sheerness to the first coat builds easily to even, opaque coverage with the second. Cleanup is easy. Lunar Haze dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, shiny finish. Topcoat does not inhibit the holographic effects of this polish in any way.

Photos show two coats of Lunar Haze over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This is one of Hayley's more understated grey-based creations, with gentle holographically-nuanced shadings of color and a nacreous luster. So lovely and graceful, it is smooth and welcoming on the nail, an entirely business appropriate addition to any collection of holographic polishes.

love,
Liz

  1. I would love to paint a room with this polish- one of the loveliest grays I've seen in a while! And it looks AMAZING on you. I'm having a bit of a Emily de Molly moment right now; revisiting your EdM posts from the past several months has been very bad for my wishlist situation hahaha. I'd wondered if I need Lunar Haze and now of course I DEFINITELY do. You and your beloved blog just have that effect on me, Liz ;)

    1. I live to enable. ;> Of course you know that there's nothing sinister about my wholehearted recommendations of this brand. Superb quality, eminently paintable, gorgeous! I would be remiss if I didn't recommend such lacquers.

For a low key polish, Lunar Haze has an incredibly gracious, hospitable quality, like it's so happy to be there on your nails. Anthropomorphize much? Why yes, yes I do. I agree, it would be lovely on four walls. I think that about a lot of polishes!

  2. How can something so seemingly simple be so gorgeous! I love how you can put into beautiful words exactly how I feel about this polish. I have subtle white holo polishes and light gray holo polishes but none like this one. I need dis!

    1. I'm happy you like it, Lara! This polish was such a surprise, I really didn't antipate how lovely it would be on the nail. The shimmers add so much to the look!
