KBShimmer Poppy Kisses

Poppy Kisses was released earlier this month by Indiana-based indie polish maker KBShimmer as part of the Fall 2016 collection. Described by creator Christy as an orange-toned red linear holographic polish, it's an absolutely perfect warm, glowing red for fall -- I can't imagine a better one! The color is a medium-verging-on-dark vermilion expanded by tones of persimmon and firebrick to a beautiful red-leaning variation of flame. Rich and lively, it's full of apples and turning leaves and crackling fires in the fireplace. Abundant finely-milled holographic pigment creates a demi-flare of violet and shimmering bittersweet in ambient light, while in the sun there's a brilliant linear prismatic display with slender sparkling ribbons in all of the rainbow colors surrounding a bright semi-metallic lick of red-orange, shading to deeper vermilion around the edges of the nail.

Application was delicious. The consistency of Poppy Kisses is fluid, light and very smooth with a thin-to-medium viscosity and a particularly fluent glide over the nail that is creamy and self-leveling. This polish likes to travel, so load your brush accordingly. Pigmentation is outstanding with one-coat coverage if you are so inclined -- I always recommend at least two coats with a holo and that's what I used for this manicure. Cleanup was remarkably easy for a well-pigmented red, with very little pigment travel and almost no residual staining. Poppy Kisses dries naturally in very good time to a smooth shiny finish. Topcoat does not in any way inhibit this polish's holographic properties.

Photos show two coats of Poppy Kisses over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

I love this polish, everything about it! The rich, ruddy color is just divine and you couldn't ask for more responsive, athletic holographic effects. A quintessionally autumnal red, if you love wearing your reds in the fall, you want this!

  1. I am suddenly feeling I need one more red holo in my polish collection, hahah! This one is knock-your-socks-off gorgeous!
Lately, I've been getting in typical summer polishes as a last hurrah to summer (well, for more northern climes anyway - it'll be late November before I feel it!). This morning, I took off ILNP So Coral and have already chosen Essie Where's My Chauffeur? for putting on later today. But this beauty has me yearning to break out a red holo! Hahah, is there any other hobby in the world that makes you wonder if you are really mentally unbalanced to the point where you can't pick just ONE color to wear, without being distracted by others in the meanwhile?! The number of times I have picked and put a polish on my desk and been delayed in polishing to the next day (actually, it can happen in a few hours), only to be captivated by another polish color into choosing it instead! I've learned to just go with the flow!
Hmmm, my normal profile was kicked and am having trouble getting back in. Think I will go with Anonymous until I figure it out.

    1. Oh no! Can't do without that little owl on a swing!

You are not alone, my dear. This is an everyday issue for me. While I sometimes have a lineup in mind for my posts, a lot of the time I wake up thinking about my choice for the day's polish. I look at what I've posted over the previous couple of days to keep a certain variety while at the same time trying to figure out what sort of color I FEEL like wearing and writing about. Usually I'll pull two or three polishes from the swatch chute (purely figurative, in reality waiting polishes have "decks" in the shelves and horizontal spaces on and around my desk) and make a decision among the them that is almost entirely intuitive.

There are rare days when I don't even feel like messing with polish at all. On those days, the right choice is everything. And there are times where I've picked something out and go so far as to do a little research and get my basecoat on only to swap it out at the last minute for another polish that suddenly appeals to me more at that moment.

I've thought about adopting a more proactive, organized approach with a planner and lists and such, but the drama of choosing the right polish for a particular day in my life keeps it fresh. That little bit of joy goes a long way!

    2. And furthermore! *lol*

About Poppy Kisses: as a red lover, I know you would be amazed and absolutely delighted by all of the consummately autumnal qualities that Christy has built into this shade. On the nail, it has all the eye-catching femininity and dramatic elegance of your storied, timeless red, even though it's essentially a red-orange. And even though it's a fresh, modern kind of color for nail polish, to me it's one of those instant classics. A worthy purchase, I recommend it without reservation.

  2. Let's see if I have the right account back here. I don't know how I ended up with so many different accounts for so many different things. To me, it's all hocus pocus!
