KBShimmer Ripe for the Pink-ing

Ripe for the Pink-ing was released in mid-March this year by Indiana-based indie polish maker KBShimmer as part of the Mega Flame collection that launched in tandem with the Spring 2016 collection. The Mega Flames are a series of superfine holographic microglitterbombs suspended in transparent, tinted jelly bases.

Creator Kristy describes Ripe for the Pink-ing as a raspberry pink. I'll take that! It's a cool-toned, medium shade of rosy magenta that's sort of like a violet-tinged variation of Mexican pink, not quite as reddened as I usually think of for raspberry, but similarly bright and buoyant with a berried vibe. Totally charming and a real mood-lifter! Plus -- super sparkly! Mass quantities of holographic microglitters blanket the nail, twinkling in ambient light and exploding into a brilliant field of dazzling prismatic sparkle in direct sun.

Application was every bit as pleasing as the color. The consistency of Ripe for the Pink-ing is fluid and light with a medium viscosity and a nearly effortless, fluent glide over the nail. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was honestly blown away by just how easy this microglitterbomb is to apply. I remember feeling the same way about its sister polish, Stalk Market. There is no stickiness or goopiness to the formula at all, and the microglitters seem to just levitate onto the nail with absolutely no tumbling or stacking in the process. Awesome! Coverage is provided by the microglitters and they are populous enough to provide evenly opaque coverage in only two coats. Cleanup is best done as you go along and frees up squads of microglitters to station themselves about your nail environs. If you go after them they'll give it up, but it takes a little persistence. Ripe for the Pink-ing dries naturally in very good time to a gentle sandy-textured finish that is mostly smoothed by a single layer of topcoat, although if uber glossiness is your preferred look you'll need two or a dedicated glitter-smoothing topcoat to get there.

Photos show two coats of Ripe for the Pink-ing over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This pink really warms with the light  -- its actually a little bit warmer overall in person than my photos show, or more like the sun shots than those in ambient light. The microglitters make it so fun to wear if you like glitter, all that dazzling light play just seems to generate happiness. At least, for me it does!
