Il Était Un Vernis Pink and Nothing but The Pink

Like Born to be Rad, Pink and Nothing but The Pink was released at the beginning of June this year by French boutique polish maker Il Était Un Vernis as part of the Welcome to Paradise collection. Co-creators Bé and Stéphanie describe this holographic polish as a "coral pink with a soft metallic shimmer and a crelly finish" in the tradition of My Favorite Popsicle, only with silvery shimmers instead of pink. I adored My Favorite Popsicle, so it's only natural that I love Pink and Nothing but The Pink just as much if not more. The color is a medium amaranth red, a bright reddish rosy shade infused with lush, finely-grained hues of red violet, raspberry and misty red orange from the abundant holographic pigment it bears. Velvety, shimmering and exceptionally dimensional, with a radiant inner glow that literally blooms on the nail, this polish is like the reds of sunset distilled, floated out in a transparent medium and charged with infinitesimal motes of silver. Gorgeous!

Application -- like buttah, baby! The consistency of Pink and Nothing but The Pink is fluid, light and very smooth with a thin-to-medium viscosity and an utterly decadent, buttery, self-leveling slip over the nail. It is amenable to thin or thicker coats as preference dictates and a joy to finesse with Il Était Un Vernis' sleekly compact flattened-style brush. Pigmentation is excellent, dispatching wearably opaque coverage in a single coat. Subsequent coats serve to incrementally deepen, intensify and enrich the color. I used three for this manicure, and prefer the look over two. Cleanup is easy with very little pigment travel and almost no residual staining, hooray! Pink and Nothing but The Pink dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, shiny finish.

Photos show three coats of Pink and Nothing but The Pink over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Tell you what, this polish doesn't know how to take a bad picture! It's a superb example of the plush, velvety look that is characteristic of Il Était Un Vernis' holographic creations, with the added eye-candy of that wonderful warm prismatic bloom.

In her review of the Welcome to Paradise collection, here, Marine of Marine Loves Polish compared Pink and Nothing but The Pink to grenadine syrup. I must investigate... get me a cosmopolitan, stat!

love,
Liz

  1. The word lush comes to mind for this polish. If I had it on, I have the feeling my fingertips from one hand would always want to be running along the top of the nails on the other hand!

    1. This one is actually even prettier in person, where the prismatic blush is warmer with golden tones that make it very lush indeed.
