Cirque Electric Daisy

Electric Daisy was released towards the end of June this year by NYC-based indie polish maker Cirque Colors as part of the Vice 2016 collection. This is officially described as a neon chartreuse creme, and I unequivocally agree. Fluorescence aside, it's a perfect match to the color known as traditional chartreuse or chartreuse yellow, a lemon yellow tinged with green that can vary from slightly more yellow to slightly more green depending upon viewing circumstances. It is dramatically neon, with a glow in the dark look in low light that is very cool. I wasn't sure whether I'd cotton to it, but its unapologetically extreme nature is actually very appealing. It's a free spirit!

Application was tetchy. The consistency of Electric Daisy is fluid, creamy and dense with a slow-moving, medium viscosity and a smooth but uneven spread over the nail. It went on easiest for me in thin coats using as light and even a touch as I could muster, but that's not to say this polish is easy to apply. I used two thin coats followed by a final more substantial one, and I could still see areas of uneven coverage, especially on my uber-ridgy ring finger nails. Seche Vite ahoy! I can't even tell you how many dubious manicures that little bottle has salvaged, and it worked its magic with Electric Daisy, smoothing out the coverage not completely, but enough for me to be more satisfied with the look. Cleanup seems pretty easy, but that light pigment will travel with acetone and settle at the edge of the cuticle if you're not careful (ask me how I know). Electric Daisy dries naturally in good time to a smooth matte finish.

Photos show three coats of Electric Daisy over treatment and basecoat with a generous topcoat of Seche Vite.

Holy highlighter, Batman! I'm not sure photos completely convey the exhiliaration that a neon like Electric Daisy brings to a manicure. There's a radical ornamental quality to this look that is intoxicating!

I was hoping to scare Fuzzy with it, but she was rather more impressed than frightened. "Very beachy," she said, like some kind of genuine nail polish enthuisast. You go, Fuzz!

love,
Liz

  1. I have seen reviews on that full Vice collection and wanted them all. I especially love this particular one. However... trying to save some money, I tell myself I have all the neon polishes I need, especially since I don't wear neon that much anymore. I have seen this polish used in some manis that had other colors on other nails and some stamping that looked so good. This polish is so bright! One of those that makes me smile. :)

    1. I ended up getting only the three I mention at the beginning of the post. In retrospect, I wish I'd gotten Plastik as well, but like you I try to conserve. I don't have all that many neons, some from Girly Bits and some from KBShimmer, but I did not have any that were the color of Electric Daisy. It got a lot of attention out in the world, people love it!

I agree, it's wonderful in nail art. I'm glad it makes you smile!
