Cirque Sin City

Like Electric Daisy, Sin City was released towards the end of June this year by NYC-based indie polish maker Cirque Colors as part of the Vice 2016 collection. Creator Annie describes this as a "neon flamingo-coral creme." The color is a rosy orange-red sort of coral that makes for a stunningly intense neon. This shade has legs! Like, walk right off your nails kind of legs! It's so vivid that it makes everything around it feel a little washed out, including my fingers. But that's a neon's raison d'être, no? Go big or get back up on the porch!

Application was wonderful. The consistency of Sin City is fluid and super creamy with a thin-to-medium viscosity and an almost effortless silky glide over the nail, an excellent formula for a neon and very easy to work with. Self-leveling properties are very good and pigmentation is excellent, nearly a one coater. Two coats delivers evenly opaque coverage. Cleanup is straightforward with a tiny bit of pigment travel and residual staining. Sin City dries naturally in very good time to a smooth matte finish.

Photos show two coats of Sin City over KBShimmer Love You Strong Time treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Voilà! From what I understand, Sin City makes a fabulous summer pedicure. I can definitely see that!

Have you guys been watching for polish at the Oympics? I am delighted to see nail polish enthusiasm alive and well among the athletes, especially the gymnasts and swimmers. Today (Sunday) I was watching the opening trials for the women's 100m breaststroke, and our girl Katie Meili sported gorgeous red nails as she won the first heat. In the second heat, winner Russian Yulia Efimova wore a gorgeous faded neon pink suit with neon coral/pink gradient nails to match. So cool!

love,
Liz

  1. Wow! That is gorgeous! And a decent formula for a neon, also - wow again!
I have watched the gymnastics and swimmers, or rather peeked over my computer when I hear cheering - my husband is watching. I have seen color on their nails, but can't distinguish what they have on. Someone in one of my nail groups on FB said they need a nail cam!

    1. Annie really knows how to do neons. Looking at the photos again, I am blown away by the color on this one!

After I wrote this I read several things criticizing the way women athletes were being described in terms of their looks, and I felt the need to examine my perceptions to see whether my noticing their nail polish was somehow diminishing to their atheticism. I don't feel that it is. It's a detail of the way they present themselves to the world. Just because male athletes don't paint their nails, at least not that I've seen, doesn't mean they don't alter certain details of their appearance such as hair cut. I've seen some unusual coiffs on men at the Olympics. It's just not as interesting to me as nail polish! Besides, if someone, male or female, has gone to the trouble of decorating or adorning or otherwise altering their appearance, why shouldn't it be noted and admired as such?

    2. Hahah, my head must have been stuck in the computer with earbuds in listening to music or in the other room reading when that about the athletes beauty or lack of and the critique of those remarks was being discussed. The thing that annoyed me to no end was the interviewers that kept on going on and on about the U.S. swimmer that was black and asking over and over again how she felt being the first American black woman to win blah blah blah. I don't think they ever asked her anything else! The athlete, from what I saw, handled it all with grace. I myself felt like bouncing the interviewer's head up against the wall several times in a row. Not that any of the 'interviewers' I saw had anything of content to ask or say...

If I ever find myself taking anything that those airhead, drama pandering talking heads, aka commentators - particularly the type they have at the Olympics and such, say seriously, I will check myself into a psych ward! They are the reason I do not like to watch the Olympics. My eyes are seriously in trouble of falling out of their sockets from all the eye-rolling happenin' here!

  2. I have a crazy question... Do you still have this color and if so can I buy it from you?

    2. Sorry, I no longer have it. I would happily sell it to you if I did. I hope you can find it elsewhere!
